Moving from b6 3.0V6 quattro to B7 2.0TFSI quattro

Hi, as my title states I'm moving to a newer A4, but I'm a bit worried that the 2.0TFSI engine won't be any more fuel efficient that the 3.0V6 I'm leaving please tell me its not the case? I'm struggling to get more than 24MPG around the city in my current 3.0V6, what real world figures can I expect from the 2.0 TFSI ?

I have averaged 30.6 mpg as calculated from over 45,000 miles of real world fill ups- mixture of driving (no motorways) and in FWD guise

My quattro averages between 27 and 28mpg. The DIS shows 30mpg but the figure I'm claiming is calculated using the RoadTrip app on the iphone, and the brim to brim method.

27mpg would be a fairly accurate figure.

My previous car was a 3.0 (BMW Z4 3.0SE) and it regularly achieved 30mpg

Around town you wont get much better than that. Going to and from work I get between 25-30mpg depending on how I drive.
On a long journey if I keep to a steady 70-80mpg then I can get over 35mpg. Keeping to a steady speed in 6th gear is the key to getting good economy in these cars.

Well I have a number of reasons, I like the power of the car, it’s the same as the 3.0V6. What is killing me is sitting in traffic, with a 3.0 your burning a 3.0 engine, so a 2.0 will hopefully drop that by a fair bit.

But my reasons for a petrol car is that I can't find any 2.0TDI with a sensible mileage for my budget and with Diesel around 10-15p more expensive than petrol the advantages are starting to drop. I've also had scare stories with DPF's blocking and require changing for crazy money, I sometimes do a lot of in town driving and I know that the engines never work hard enough to burn off the carbon that builds up. The BLB engine stores have shaken me a bit. Also I know nothing about diesel engines, but I do know that they are a lot more complicated than a petrol engine.
