Normally if there is a draught like what you are describing then there would be a lot of windnoise or water ingress as the pur bond would not have been applied correctly, You would notice such a difference immediately after a replacement if this were the case. Without sounding patronising have you checked all the vents etc as if you can feel the draught on your face then you should be able to move your hand from your face to the direction of where the draught is coming from to give you an indication. Even a small hole in the pUR bead would give a high pitched whistle at any speed

Thank you for such quick responses. Your comments put my mind at rest about the bonding. Yesterday, I had the car jet washed specifically to see if there was any water ingress and thankfully there wasnt, so I shall pursue other avenues for the draught.

Hi, I have checked the vents and they seem OK.

At times the draught/s seem to be coming through the steering column and/or any gaps in the dash - I have checked what grommets I can see under the bonnet and they all seem OK.

The car is at the garage for MOT and service later this week so I will ask them to have a look and also ask for an opinion on the windscreen as I am now convinced that there is distortion to the nearside and magnification.

    Alan,
    Just a thought.

Not the most technical of answers but; If you are still worried about the draught, turn the climate fans off and suspend some cotton strands spaced out around the area. Take it for a drive and see if any indicate an area in particular. If so, concentrate the strands in that area to pinpoint the cause.

Good idea - thank you - I will try it. I am not a smoker but the wife is and I thought of asking her to light up in the car to see what happens to the smoke.

Having driven a hire car whilst mine was at the garage for servicing and not experiencing any problems with the windscreen, I now know for sure that the replacement screen fitted in my Passat is imperfect.
There are areas of distortion from under the rear view mirror across to the pillar on the passenger side.
It seems that the distortion can alter depending on the light and temperature = Is this possible ?
Prior to going back to the windscreen fitters, I have spoken with my Insurers and advised them of the problems that I had and have with replacement screens, and they advised that, due to the age of the car (R reg), I am not entitled to a " dealer OEM windscreen " !!!
