I've read a lot of threads with the same problem of the fuel gauge reading empty but they all seem to end with replaced under warranty, my cars a 2005 3.0TDI Quattro with 80000 miles so not under warranty. Is there a guide to replacing the faulty sender yourself as i'm no longer working. Thanks!

Does the DIS state the fuel range? If it does, does it seem accurate?

If the answer to the abopve 2 is yes, then it is the fuel gauage itself.

If the answer to the above is no, then it is the sender or another electrical fault.

YOu can get to the sender after removing the rear set cushions. There is usually an inspection panel that you can remove to get to the sender.

Either way, a diagnostic will tell you for sure.

    Hi all,

Yesterday, I faced this problem too. My fuel gauge is showing empty even though I have about half tank of fuel.

I was wondering is there anyway I can fix this or do I have to bring it to a garage.

    Sigh...

    Cheers.

Do you have a meter that can measure ohms ( Resistance )
Also tell me exactly which car model you have, some have different tanks and fuel sensor locations. Regards Peter
