Does my key have a chip/transponder

Hi All

My girlfriends car only came with one key and for peace of mind I would like to get another key cut.

I have read on here about the need to get the keys with chips/transponders coded either by VW or by a good supplier but have not been able to see which cars/years had such keys.

My girlfriends car is a 199/2000 'W' reg 1.6 Golf. The one key she has is an HAA key with a vw logo and a 'torch' activated when the logo button is pushed.

It does not lock/unlock the doors via the button, only by actually using the key in the locks. She does not have an alarm fob either.

Does this HAA need to be coded or can I just get another one cut from a decent locksmith shop

Hi mate there is a strong chance that the key has a chip in it, to be sure send Crasher and email or pm he will know for sure mate

best way to find him is to go in to the members list and then click on C scroll down and you will find Crasher, click on his name and it will offer you to view his profile, PM him or EMAIL him, as you only have 5 posts i dont think you can PM him till you have 10 but you should be able to send him an email or post on his wall, if you want i will pm him asking him to have a look at this thread so he can advise you
