    Hi everyone.

I have noticed (in last week) that upon locking the car ('56 Passat estate 2.0TDi), the little red flashing light in door remains a solid red light for a while. It eventually returns to flash again.

Any ideas? Is this telling me there's a fault in the alarm system somewhere?

    Thanks all.

Just been out to experiment with anti-theft system... Can now confirm that audible module is not working. All other aspects seem ok (interior sensors etc) and indicator lights flash when system tripped, just no noise!

Anyone know where the audible module is so I can check if all connections ok and clean/dry?

I've checked fuse for system - seems ok. Not sure if there's a separate fuse for audible alarm (have only found one for anti-theft system)?

The alarm module is built into an antitheft box under the drivers front wing/wheel arch....Have fun.

Hi. I'll be eagarly watching how you got on. I have/noticed the same problem. I did have the DMF, camshaft changed and other bits very recently. Maybe the mechanic has detached a cable?

I had this problem too, my sounder was making a funny crackling noise. It sounded like an electrical crackling arcing. I found the unit and posted the details on here and Martin replied with the same as above.

To be fair, I just left mine, it stopped making the noise and last time I did a VCDS scan it still showed up as a fault.

Might change it one day. From what I could tell, I think its just a 12v Horn inside a VW branded box!

    SORTED!

Now, I wish I could say that I stripped it all down, located the problem and fixed it....

But this would just be a big, fat lie!

I removed the wheel arch covers (what a pain in the butt!) and located the anti-theft box. Well, I can confirm it does what it says on the tin - no way I was gonna try tampering with it. Put it all back together (harder than removing - typical!) and left well alone.

2 weeks later......... Suddenly alarm mysteriously comes back to life. No solid red light on door panel, just the expected flash. Audible module working fine. Crazy!!

Hope everyone else with this problem has the 'Christmas miracle' too!
