Oil Sensor Workshop! Warning

Hi

My 01 TDi Sport 130 has started (intermittently) showing the Oil Sensor Workshop! warning on start up. When it happens ,the orange oil light stays on for a few seconds and then goes away. The oil level is fine.

Are these sensors known to fail?

And am I right in thinking that an orange = oil level and red = oil pressure?

Most common is a wiring fault. It is worth checking before buying a new oil sensor. If it is the sensor GSF are around £22 Main dealer £45. Replace it when you do a oil change as you will need to drain the oil.

I have just bought a 2001 2.0 s Passat,and like above intermittently I keep getting OIL SENSOR WORKSHOP I have been told by V.W that if I disconnect the positive wire from the battery for 10 mins then re-connect that will cure the problem. Does anybody know if this works !!

I have got a 2002 130tdi Passat,and like above intermittently I keep getting OIL SENSOR WORKSHOP but mine happens very time i drive the car..... I disconnect the positive wire from the battery for 10 mins then re-connect but it keep telling me oil sensor workshop.
i have changed the oil presure switch and the sensor in the sump with new ones from main dealer..and it still keep coming on...
can anyone help.

Hi SJ30,
So ive been told, that when you disconnect the posi lead from the battery this is suppose to reset the system but if this is the case i don't know.
Maybe you need to have it reset at a vw garage or if you know anybody with a unit find out the code and have them reset it.
Sorry this is not much help but you could always try phoning your local v.w garage as well.

hi mate thanks for the reply... had a man with vag lead reset error codes and it just keeps coming back after you run the car for a bit.

Hi all this might help I had the oil sensor warning on my 02 pd130 and I used the cancel service code on my car and it went happy days 😊 hope it helps
