I have a 2003 Ibiza TDI 130 and the fuel gauge and outside air temp gauges have started dropping out periodically. Turning the ignition on and off can get them back for a while. Specialist electrician with fault reader said faults in tank sender and air temp sensor, got new ones but no change, has admitted it is not that. Last night I noticed that the air temp gauge started reading low, down to 1.5 degrees from 8.5 and as it fell, so did fuel gauge slightly, then after an hour they both stopped again, air temp came on and off on its own a few times, fuel only if I turn the ignition off and on again. The electrician said it is two separate faults but they both happen at either the same time or almost the same time. Any ideas please, I have seen a few threads with similar problems but no definite solutions.

After four years problem solved!! Dash was sent to BBA, no joy, then I noticed it would work occasionally when the wiring loom was moved behind the dash so I suspected a break in a wire. I took it to a whiz of a car electrician who checked out the wiring and said it was more likely to be the instrument cluster. As soon as he took it apart he saw two dry solder joints where the green plug goes in, he resoldered them and everything is working again.
