After refueling today, the glow plug light has since started flashing constantly. When I initially started the car on the forecourt, it stopped, but there was no trouble starting it again. The handbook says that when this light flashes it indicates a fault with the diesel engine management system and that it should be taken to a dealer ASAP. Has anyone had this? Is it okay to drive? Or is it simply a new set of plugs needed? Cheers.

mines been flashing for the last 50k i dont even notice it anymore the car still drives as it always has. now and again it stops flashing only then do i notice it

i was told that it was dirty diesel that started mine off althrough im not sure how true that is.

ive also been told its because the break lights are not working but they are. maybe worth checking them through.

9/10 times this is due to a dud brake light switch.

if you get the little engine workshop message then try your breaklights if they both working fine just take them out give the connection a good clean and put back in, thats what i done and it was fine!!

It means a critical fault is present, you should have the codes read.
The glow plug light doubles up as the EML on the TDis.

Quick update. Took the car into Skoda today (VW were fully booked), they had it for just under 2 hours. They ran a full diagnostic check, cleared the fault codes and then took it on a 5 mile run, which has stopped the light from flashing. Looks like it may just have been a glitch, car is running as it always has done. I am also intruiged by the brake light/switch idea though??!

I wasn't told what the codes were and after waiting in the showroom for two hours I was quite keen to leave!

Hi all, I had the same problem and mine was due to a brake bulb coming out and causing a short which must have caused two other brake bulbs to blow, replaced blown bulbs and all is well now. Cant beleave VW scare the hell out of you with the computer saying "Engine Workshop". when mine happened I turned straight round and got home asap only for someone to say "mate your brake lights aint working"
