Does anyone have knowledge of howto repair remove the glove compartment.

My grandson gave it an almighty boot today and the lock is broken.

The lock mechanism is gone as i can hear it ratteling also the pins on the end to lock when closing have gone inside the drop down door.

    Hi Thanks for your reply.

The model year is 2002 . 1.9. TDi PD. Deisel the best car i have ever had in my life. Today it is as good as the day i bought it till my grandson booted the glove comparment door.

It looks real finicky to resolve so would be gratefull for any advice. Thankyou.

Im sorry i ought to have included this information in my first post. jamsb.

There are seven screws. (torx type, I think T20)

3 at the top, 3 at the bottom, which are visible and easy to get to.

The 7th however is hidden and requires the removal of the front section if the centre console.

A few tips here from one who has done this afair few times !

1, Don't forget to remove the glove box light first as it will be destroyed if you forget and try to pull the box out.

2, Cut the hidden tab off so if you ever need to take it out again you won't have to remove the console. Note: I know a few people who have done this including me when I had a Golf and there are no rattles as a consequence.

    Good luck

    Thanks for your reply.

I have removed 3 at the top and three at the bottom.

Removed the 2 facing ones with the buffer on them .

    Have removed the light fittings.

Have the box almost out. There is tab bottom right hand side of box fixed to to centre consol.

Is this the tab i need to cut //

It looks like about 75 ml across with tongue going into consol ?

Where will i get a replacement box for this.

im sorry my car year is 2002 not 2001.

Sorry for all these questions. Thankyou .jamsb.

    Thanks BigCol,
Followed proceedure as above. Cut the Tab and yes it came out as sweet as a nut. Thankyou very much.

I expect it would simply be easier to replace whole unit.

Where on earth will i get one of these ?

What is a reasonable price to pay ?

Thankyou for this forum and help given to me im truly gratefull. My grandson has reported me to his Nana for me breaking the car. I have to say i had to laugh. Bless him. jamsb.
