    Hi Fellow VeeDubbers

I was wondering if anyone can advise/help me on an issue I have with the puddle lights on my mk4 Golf.

BOTH the puddle lights on BOTH the doors (its a 3 door) have suddenly stopped working, including the lights-on buzzer. I have read on plenty of forums that it is usually the microswitch in door lock that ends up failing for this to happen. However I find it quite strange for both of them to fail at same time. They were definitely working a few days ago, and the only thing I remember doing before I noticed them not working was that I replaced the bulb in the boot light and glove box. Boot light still didn't work which even with new bulb as I think this one deffo is the microswitch since the washer water is leaking inside so I think it has been damaged from this in the past.

I am wondering if I have blown any fuses or anything even thought I have checked in fuse box and they all seem ok. Any thing else it could be?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hi Vtec.
My opinion would be that it may be a faulty microswitch on the door lock.
No puddle lights coming on, no warning buzzer that you have left the lights on with the door open, all classic symptoms.
Do your courtesy lights come on when the doors are opened ???
If you are sitting in the car with the engine running, and you open each door seperatly, does the door open light come on in your console ???
My advice would be to get her plugged into a diagnostic computer and see how you go from there.
I know offhand that the locks are about £80 each and fitting ( A quote from my own mechanic !0, is £30 to fit each one.

    Hi BelfastMark

    1. No courtesy lights come on when door opened
    2. Console Door open light doesn't come on in dash ( not sure if there is one as its the earlier model)
    3. This is what VAG come came back with:

    http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/00928
    and
    http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/00929

It has come back after resetting it.

BUT I cant see how both the microswitches could have failed at the same time? BOTH of doors have stopped working. Unless its just my bad luck

The puddle lights should not be controlled by the microswitches. The interior lights are. Are the interior lights working. I am guessing they are. The puddle lights connect with the boot light. I think you blew a fuse or damaged the wiring when you touched the bootlight. I would test your fuses carefully. Take out the bulbs you fitted and see if that fixes things.

    Hi Martin1810

The interior lights only work when I unlock the car with remote fob (from locked position), or when I switch engine off and pull out the key from ignition. They dont work if I open the doors.

I have checked the obvious fuses and had a scan of any others that may affect. They all seem ok.

I have also removed the bulb from the boot light and still no luck. The boot light had never worked since I've had the car.

I have a feeling I have knocked some wiring or blown a fuse, but fuses see, ok, wiring in boot seems ok.
