    Hi all

I have some specific questions regarding the above that I've been unable to find answers to.

My car currently has the bog standard MkVI audio setup comprising the RCD310 unit and standard four way speaker system. I have the MDI + AUX port in the armrest.

I gather that the above swap is a simple one-out-one-in operation and should take about 15 minutes for the installation aspect. However, I have two questions that I'd be grateful if someone could answer for me:

    - Is ANY recoding whatsoever required in order to get the RCD510 to talk nicely to the MFD?

    - Will my MDI and aux-in still work with the RCD510? I like being able to plug a USB drive into the unit and have it play MP3s

    Many thanks.

PS I'm not really interested in the RNS510 as I already have a TomTom which, on the rare occasion that I need SatNav, does a pretty good job. Although if the RCD510 requires recoding also, I may be more tempted to go for the best i.e. RNS510.

You're right in that its plug n play.

The only issues are if you buy a RCD510 thats from a car with a rear camera, in whcih case you'll get a blue screen on the RCD510 when selecting reverse (as its looking for the camera video signal).

I thought about it myself, but i'm extremely wary of all the supposedly genuine units that are around - a lot of people must be swapping to RNS510 to have all these RCDs available. Especially in Lithuania which appears to have a ready supply of units !

For what its worth UK VW dealers can't order a RCD510 via parts yet, the factory has all allocation to themselves for new builds.

Thanks Percymon. You are confirming then that zero re-coding is required?

    Cheers.

Thanks for the information re: factory units...that may sway my decision towards ropey gambles from E-bay / Poland .
