180ps V6 2.5 tdi motor. Vp44 injector pump failed and I have a new one, ouch!
So how do I set up the initial (mechanical) timing of the pump?
I took the old pump apart and although there is a keyway on the shaft, there is none on the pulley! i.e. the pulley can be installed in any position on the shaft, gee thanks Bosch, it's a taper shaft and the nut is all that holds it!
So I'm assuming the same applies to the replacement pump (which comes with pulley attached) and any timing marks I applied to my old pulley cannot be transferred over.
So how do I get the pump onto the right tooth on the belt? Any timing marks on/in the pump anywhere else?
Assuming I can surmount that hurdle..
How do you initially bleed the system from scratch? It doesn't have a priming lever like my tractor, and I sure don't want to run it 'dry' by cranking.

A late reply but i would not take the pully off the shaft from the new post as the timing is critical and set-up by the rebuilder. You need the locking pin to set the pump at tdc then the pump needs adjusting to get it to the right spot. You will need the latest VCDS with the v6 tdi plug-in and the engine needs to be hot at over 80 celsius.
