Hi gang, please tell me what I've done wrong.
Last weekend I changed the front anti roll bar "D" bushes and the wishbone bushes x4 on my '95 2.6 front drive coupe.
Question is I'm now experiencing a lot of "tight rubber" squeeking and a little bit of clonking when moving off, coming to a standstill and steering when stationary.
I understand that a lot of you will ask "did you tighten the w/bone pivot bolt correctly?",now because of various supporting /jacking issues I loose fitted the bolts with the front of the car on stands with no wheels fitted, then one side at a time jacked the whole strut as hard up under the wing as possible until the car started to lift off the stands, then fully tightened the pivot bolts.
The a/roll bar "D" bushes I don't remember if the car was hanging loose or struts forced up.
Would my method cause this odd affair ,which was certainly not there before I started or have I just highlighted the possibility that the subframe bushes may be shot.?
I fully intend to replace the s/frame bushes just to know the car is right but have run out of shillings at the moment
Should I have sprayed wd40 or similar onto the area while fitting to alleviate this noise?
I know that was a load of "did I ,have I ,should I but I'm quite sure IT HAS ALL BEEN CAUSED BY ME AND I DON'T USUALLY STUFF THINGS UP

Please give us a nudge and I'll get under her and have another poke about

    Thanks gang

    Stuart

i think you have highlighted the subframe bushes myself. now the suspension is all tight it will put extra strain on those old bushes. i would get them done and if the squeeking is still there look more closely at the wishbone bushes.

I am in agreement,I renewed the w/bone bushes last week.
The MOT inspector , seemed to think my problem ,as described to him ,was that the small triangular plates that the rear bush bolt goes through, was fitted up-side down but I only re-fitted them the way they were before I touched them.
(I had to draw the s/f bolt to remove the w/bone bolt)
None of these odd noises were apparent until I changed the other bushes so I reckon these sounds will clear up when I do the s/frame bushes, hopefully
    Many thanks zollaf

All done ,replaced the sub frame bushes today, rebuilt the lot back up, jobs a good 'un
Thanks to zollaf for the advice and thanks to crasher for the diagram,it turned out that I had refitted two triangular plates upside down last week and thus caused the grinding clonking noise.
Many thanks to everybody who contributed, she drives a treat now
