Please can someone confirm if a towbar from a saloon 2001 A6 will fit a 2001 avant? Or are they a different fitment?

    Many thanks

hmmmm, I know quattro and FWD C5 A6's use different towbars as the rear chassis legs are different and the towbar itself slots into the ends of the legs, Avant's and saloons are the same dimensions so I would think they have the same chassis so as long as they're both FWD or both quattro yeah it should.

Also found this which seems to confirm it-

One towbar fits both saloon or estate.....

Thanks for your reply, so does this mean then that if the towbar was from a 'standard' saloon A6 it would fit my A6 Quattro Avant?

No, I'm pretty sure the quattro has a different rear chassis set up so a front drive A6 tow bar won't fit a quattro.(on the C5 A6)
I myself bought a brand new detatchable westfalia towbar from a fella off ebay who'd unfortunately bought a FWD spec towbar for his quattro and it wouldn't fit hence his reason for selling it.

Same company sells different towbars for FWD and quattro models

    I'm assuming 'standard' means FWD.....

    It will do.

You need a Quattro specific one. I got a Witter one for around £120 including the electrics and the bypass box. You need the bypass relay so that when the car doesn;t think a bulb is out when indicating etc.

I have to say, it's very very good and I can highly reccomend the Witter kit.
