ok, it looks like i am going to sit this one out. The cars only worth about 7k, so will wait until i can find an independant in this area to do the full monty. Anyone near Warrington interested?. Once again thanks to those that contributed to this thread

I have the same noise on my 05 2.7 tdi s line main dealer says the same a £500 fix for the tensioner but is advising it may be best to replace all chain tensioners and injectors and chain at the same time gauranteeing a fix. For this job parts alone knocking on £1100. Was waiting your result before i went ahead. If the part has been modded because of failure audi should've recalled and replaced old tensioners to prevent having to replace everything.

Commiserations. I agree they should have been recalled. I dont know if it is just psychological, but from a cold start my car doesnt clatter, it is now only when left for about 40 minutes. Let me know what you do about it. Cheers

Had a real intermittent clatter which was the original reason I took it in you could feel the vibration all over the engine the mainn dealer found this was the front belt was slack and after tensioning noise was gone but chain tensioner still clicking on start will take it in over next few weeks and keep you posted.

Ive just had a quote from my local dealers for £4500, to replace chain, tensioners and all 6 injectors.

. They said that should fix the clatter at startup, but wat i dont understnd is why replace the injectors?

Its stop to stop the clatter in your wallet if its only half empty

Ive had a quote from a local independant who can do this job for less than £2000. I am gonna get it done within the next month and will give feedback asap.

Well, for anyone still following this saga, I have great news. I have had the engine sorted at a newly opened independant. Costing a fraction of dealer price the job was done in 5 days. He invited me over to see the job as it progressed which was impressive. I have all the old chains and tensioners that were replaced and the car is running like new again. My advice is dont go for a part replacement as this was expensive and didnt work in my case. Bite the bullet and get the lot done.

Hi I also have a 06 2.7 tdi my fault is that I have a like rattle noise at low revs between 1000-1500 rpm dissapears after that? Especially when pulling away from junctions hill starts etc can anyone shine any light on this many thanks in advance.
