    Hi there,
Can anybody help. I left the light on in my car yesterday and when I returned about 7 hrs later it wouldn't start. The light on the dash were dim and it wouldn't turn over. I tried to jump start it but that didn't work. I managed to bump start it and drove it around about 4 miles, parked up and turned off. I then tried to restart but nothing. The symptoms are: put the key in ignition and turn once the dash lights come on as normal when you try and start the car it does nothing. It doesn't try to turn over, I can't even here the starter solenoid clicking. I thought it might be the immobiliser but that would at least start briefly. I've had the battery off and charged put back but still nothing. Can anyone help me.?

I suggest you have a scan done 1st If you can get someone with a VCDS unit then you stand a chance of knowing what is wrong, and maybe even fixing it.
I flattened my Batt. once and it caused all sorts of code changes which needed VCDS to correct them.

did you leave the interior light on? that should turn itself off after 10 mins, after you bump started it a 4 mile drive would not be enough to put much charge in the battery i think you need to charge the battery and see if it will start, if it wont and the starter still doesnt turn the engine over then i suggest you look into the starter as that could have been the battery drain rather than the light being on, as for codes id look into that after charging the battery, yes there will problem be a bucket load of codes but they will prob all be to do with the low battery voltage

Yes nearly all the faults were low votage warnings, but one thing that happened was that the car ID was changed to a left hand drive vehicle and the FOG and Reverse Light was knocked out as a consequence along with the ESP program.
It took a bit of searching to pin the reason down but good old google came to the rescue as someone had experianced it before.

One tick in a box with VCDS solved the problem.

Thanks a lot guys for all your comments, much appreciated. I managed to fix it. Basically it was a fuse, apparently these models don't take too kindly to being jump started. I did check the fuses when it happened but missed it. I cleared the fault codes, thought I'd recheck the fuses and found it! What a relief, thanks again.
