    Hi,

Read over the last few months the regular posts on the difference between BLB and BRE engines. Just noticed my engine code starts with BRD. So where does this fit in to the range as I thought there were only the two types? Also does it suffer similar potential oil pump problems to the BLB?
    Thanks in advance.

There are various engine codes and the oil pump failure mainly covers affected vehicles which were recalled for the modification.
Few outside the vin range recalled (Workshop campaign 13D7) failed unless the previous owners failed to take there vehicles into the dealers.
If in doubt, ring your local audi dealer for a quick check of the history and outstanding campaigns

Oh dear oh dear.. I thought this was one nightmare I had avoided. I have a BRD.... Out of interest, what is the mod and does it prevent catastrophe?

Are the oil pump failure and chain drive failures separate issues or related?

I guess a trip to Audi would be wise.

Local Audi said no outstanding workshop "actions" against my VIN. They haven't done an oil pump failure for 12months. Maybe this means most affected cars are fixed now?
Glad of the advice to make the check anyway... Audigav - I hope you have made that call??

Like I said, there not as common and mainly vehicles which missed the workshop action due to not visiting the dealers.
Forums tend to attract disgruntled owners who may not always disclose the full truth of the failure or service history etc etc. lol

That's good news for you. It wasn't until the other day I realised my engine type might be affected. However it's twice been in at the local Audi garage in the last 18months and both times I was told there were no outstanding mods/checks due on the car so hopefully they were right.

Hi I am new to the forum having just purchased a 55 plate a4 with 77k on the clock, it has the blb engine no.BLB134287, could any one explain what the modification carried out under the recall entailed, and will the VAG dealership carry out the mod on my car if it was not done by the previous owner? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You've got me worried now. Are you saying thay my 06 2.0TDI "BRE" may be affected by the dreaded oil pump issue? I thought that proble was restricted to the BLB code.

Found this on another forum. Can't comment on it's validity though:

Build dates after 31/08/2005 Both A4 and A6 are the new gear setup.

I cant tell if that includes the last few 2005 model year cars or not.

(to be safe all 6 chassis cars, 2006 model year, are gear driven)

    WAUZZZ8E?6A??????
    WAUZZZ4F?6A??????

Perhaps somebody more knowledgeable could confirm if this is true.
