Ive been reading some of the posts regarding some detailing products and at the moment (considering I don't want to spend a fortune) I've narrowed it down to the following:

    Megs Quik Clay Kit
    AutoGlym Super Resin Polish
    Collinite 476 Double Wax
    Plus necessary cloths etc

My question is i've got loads of swirl marks (I think the previous owner must have used those drive in car washes) doesn't help my car is black either, plus a few subtle to somewhat deep scratches.

Following a previous reply by elitedetailer here https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...ad.php?t=94241

Shall I purchase a bottle of Megs Swirl X or Scratch 2.0 to fill in the scratches etc or will the AutoGlym SRP fill these in somewhat

If not and i need a bottle of Megs Swirl X or Scratch 2.0 do i apply these prior to claying or after claying, and again lol if after claying will it interfere with the AG polish if that's the correct term

    Thanks in advance

    Hi

You need to clay your car before you start polishing with Autoglym,Meguiars etc etc.

As a wax, this is a very good wax for low money: Meguiars 16 Paste Wax and will match the Collinite.

For the swirls, the Scratch X 2.0 is quite strong, so I would start with swirl X first. You will need to work it in and it may take a couple of attempts per panel.

Thanks for the advice ED, so basically clay the car then use swirl x to fill in the swirls then polish with SRP and then wax it ? and the Meguiars 16 Paste Wax how easy it to work it into the car because collinite makes out its super easy

Budget isn't too much of an issue but I don't want to spend silly amounts as this would be the first time attempting a "detail" so with the above products could i expect (if used correctly lol) some noticeable results..

Last thing the swirl x is it ok to apply like literally all over the car because the car is hardly anti-swirl

Yes the SwirlX is going to remove the swirls after claying and before the SRP. The Meguiars 16 is an easy wax to use.

You will 100% see a big improvement on how your car looks and feels.

You should work in 1ft square boxes when you are using swirlX.

    Hi,

I finally got the products and today managed to get my car washed, £5 car hand wash lol sorry guys

I managed to completely clay the car and wow what a difference it makes the car feels totally smooth but unfortunately before i could get any further, bloody pot luck always happens to me it starts raining

Quick question is there any way I could continue with the rest of the steps i.e. swirl x, polish and wax after the rain has subsided

I assume I don't need to clay again but the rain obviously has spoilt my plans, or would I need to wash the car again

Then apply swirlx, polish and wax ?

    Cheers

    Hello,

I managed to plough on, after waiting 2 days after the initial claying of my car I had rain spots all over it so i basically gave each panel a quick spray of water and wiped it off so i could begin with the swirl x on each panel.

After applying the swirl x it seemed more to polish the car as it was shining afterwards especially in regards to the AG SRP when applied it was very runny and dried up very quickly especially with the polishing cloth but nevertheless i applied it all over the car and to be honest to my untrained eye it didn't add to much of a shine compared to what the swirlx did after claying

I presume maybe one or the other is required depending if you want to fill in swirls or just polish.

After all that (believe me sounds short when writing) I applied the collinite very easy wax to use and I hope it beads the rain (secretly wanting it to rain so i can see lol)

Basically this was my first time ever using these products, and as a quick tip anyone using the megs clay kit go easy on the lubrication spray lol we've been advised to use it generously so that the clay is not applied on a dry panel but i guess i got a bit trigger happy.

Also break a little clay of when claying the side panels etc i'm glad i did, because after claying the roof I was adamant I wouldn't drop the clay on the ground (if you drop it on the roof doens't matter its not going to fall to the ground) but the first thing i did when starting the side - you guessed it dropped the clay

Sorry for the rant here are some pics of after the clay: and then after the polish - can't see much difference lol crappy phone camera but there is

    After claying

(Had to stop at the above picture it started raining) After swirlx, polish and wax ~ 2 days later

Finally last part hopefully someone would have read this far now that i spent all this effort doing this, what happens next time it needs a wash will it need to be waxed again, and how soon will i need to apply swirlx or polish for that matter

I think the Collinite last's quite a long time. So providing you are not using a car shampoo which strips the wax coating, it should be good for several months. Assuming you use a decent shampoo, which does not strip the outer wax coat, you shouldn't need to polish for some while now.
