Guys, I can now move from the A4 B5 section to here!

Proud owner of 06 Passat Sport (140) Estate. Loving it, particularly the seats.

However some stupid questions that the manual doesn't answer clearly:

    1. Deadlocks - are they activated by a second press of the button?
    2. Do I have to leave the lights switched on to dipped to get 'welcone home' lighting when I return to the car and unlock?

Separate question: What wheel wax/protection does everyone recommend to protect those lovely 17s?

    Thanks in advance!

congrats on the car hope you are enjoying it

for wheel protection you need something like this:

works really well and a small amount will last for ages making the wheels easier to clean every time

I think the 'tunnel' icon is ALS (auto lights) which I think I have on the sport?

The manual refers to the Multi function steering wheel a lot for setting delays on the lights, but it's not clear of those of us without. Maybe a re-read!!

When I had the B6 Sport I came to the conclusion that most of the stuff the manual refers to setting via the MFSW can be done via the steering column stalk BUT you gotta have the the Highline MFD. Otherwise a VW dealer or VAGCOM/VCDS is needed. As I only had the Midline MFD I could not confirm my conclusion. Maybe others can?

Bit of a conflict of terms here, VW refer to it as coming/leaving home.

Anyway, if I remember rightly I once parked my car and locked it with the high beam on. When I unlocked the car the next morning the 'leaving home' lights worked ok - turned on automatically when I unlocked the car as usual.

However, I'd forgotten I'd left the high beam on the previous evening. I then drove down the road and then tried to flick the high beam on, as it was on low beam lights, only to find the stalk would not move forwards. After a few mintes of messing around it seemed that the lights automatically turned on in dipped mode, despite the stalk being in the high beam position. I pulled the stalk back to low beam position, then went back to high beam and all worked fine as usual.

Should be ok to leave it in either high or low beam position.

I now have a 2010 Passat but the function works slightly differently as you have to manually flick the stalk to activate the coming home function, but the leaving home is fully automatic. Not sure why they've done this, the MK6 Golf still has the totally auto function, as did the earlier Passat B6 models.
