    Hi All,

I had a funny squeaking noise coming from the engine which Audi have diagnosed as coming from a faulty waterpump. They will replace it under the warranty.

A colleague of mine (who has almost exactly the same car as me) said that the waterpump is attached to the cambelt, and that since the car has done 61k I should get the cambelt changed at the same time.

From what I can work out from searching this forum the cambelt is indeed attached to the waterpump and the cambelt will be removed to replace it.

Could someone confirm this, just so I am sure?

Assuming that is the case, will Audi replace the cambelt as a matter of course? Or should I specifically ask for them to do it?
Since they will be doing all the labour under the warranty to replace the waterpump it seems reasonable that I would only need to pay the cost of the cambelt itself. If so, what would be the price of a cambelt? I can only seem to find the price of replacing them and not just the part itself.

    Many thanks,
    Mark

The cambelt isn't attached to the waterpump. The waterpump is driven by the cambelt, but the belt is (almost fully) removed to access the pump.

I'd specifically instruct them to change the belt and the tensioner rollers (£100 ish in parts maybe?) Some garages would change it as matter of course but many would not bother - insist they do and ask for the old parts to be left with you.
