I am, was thinking about a small car at first, then decided to go with a big car (creature comforts etc) and diesel. Focus and Mondeo seem to be quite good VFM.

Need economy and a value on the Passat. So thought bolox sell it put a bit too (gotta give half the Pasty value to the missus) and get me CBTDi
    One German, Two Italian.
    It's a Mercedes Benzzzz though

My Focus is a TDDI and is very good on fuel but is old (read reliable) technology although not as quick or refined as newer stuff does the job quite well. The newer TDCI's are just as problematical as VAG group cars, the problem with them is there is no Ford vagcom equivalent.

technically, you already are, having run a fiat :P

I would list all my cars, but they're kinda in my sig, so a bit pointless :P

future VAG - I hope to be in something with a bit more power, but I'm now caught in a catch 22. I'm in a cheap little polo, which to be fair isn't that slow thanks to it weighing less than a cloud of feathers. It's also costing me a 1/3rd of what it cost me to insure the A4....being 25 and living in Manchester means I can't justify the Cupra I'd love to own

Question in that case : how do you fit one of these :

    into one of these :

    As mentioned before current car

    '98 Ford Mondeo 2.0 16V Ghia(!)
    w/o A/C or Alloys
    with copious amounts of rust...

Electrics are temperamental (am going to have to investigate why dash doesn't light up when headlamps are switched on), alarm keeps going off at random times (had to disconnect sounder to preserve my sanity), spare wheel well leaks (must get some silicon and seal it up ).

On the plus side it does handle better than the Passat

    previous

    '00 Passat 115TDI
    '98 Passat 1.8 20V
    '90 Golf Driver
Nothing to see here, move along..

I secretly envy you CBTD drivers (well I did, obviously not now).

My old CBTD was a 2002 1.8 Vectra estate (facelifted, one of the last Vectra Bs). I thought it was very, very good! A few years back I had a 1995 Fiat Punto 1.2 Selecta (auto) which was stolen from my house overnight. That was the ultimate CBTD.

If I had to own a CBTD again it would be either of the above 2 cars.

    Finally my home hath arrived....

I currently am a VAG driver/owner with the delights of the 1988 Scirocco Scala, however I have recently retired the girl to the garage for some tinkering and mending and picked myself u a CBTD the likes of which would make many a grown man cry into his beard

My current CBTD is a 2000 plate Daewoo lanos with 57k on the clock which I picked up from the auctions at the princley sum of £300

This isn't the actual item mine is far far worse...

Previous CDTD owned cars have been:
    1996 Ford Escort MK5
    1996 Ford Mondeo Mk2
    1995 Ford Mondeo MK1
    1993 Honda Prelude
    1992 VW Scirocco GT2
    1996 Saab 9000
    1992 Audi Coupe

There are probably more, but I can't think of any - all these cars have been purchased for £300-£400 pounds and driven into the ground as a cheap ride to work etc
You may think I'm being helpful yet sarcastic, this is only because I feel I need to help you to help yourself in the future

    I'm torn

I find myself full of respect, holding my hand out for a "hell yeah!" high five

but then I also find myself splitting my sides at the thought of Captain Answer driving a daywoah.

you've got the right idea though, buying and running around. I seem to get too attached to mine, even the cheapies...

what's happend to the LR's? and have we seen pictures of the scala? <hint>

This thread is turning into an alcoholics anonymooose except with cars where the hardest part is admitting it.

I have no shame though and love my CBTD and have even started modifying it although it is a Ghia and is ssupposed to have everything.

In fact I have un-modded part of whereby I swapped out the wanky fake plastic wood dash trim and console and replaced it with plain black plastic equivalents.

Those daewoos are terrible but £300 is living the CBTD dream to the full !
