Had the garage change my front discs/pads at the MoT for the sake of an easy life... The new discs have an angled shoulder between the friction surface and the hub mounting and I am noticing that the friction material on the pads extends sufficient that it bears on this angled portion of the disc, albeit only by a couple of millimetres. Coming back from a long trip recently I noticed that this appears to be preventing the usual polishing effect of the pads from taking place across the full diameter of the friction surface: only towards the outer edge. Also, since the metal backing of the pad projects beyond the friction material like they always do, it looks to me as if there will be metal-to-metal contact at some point before I get my full wear out of the pads. In writing this down, I'm pretty much answering my own question as it seems to me that something is definitely amiss here, but would be interested to know if this is acceptable and something that crops up all the time?

Hi Mate, They have fitted the wrong discs to your car, I have the same problem and have had to buy new discs and pads to replace them. The new discs have about 10mm more friction surface than the old ones. I am guessing your car is a later face lift model and they have fitted pre face lift discs
