Just connected the Fleabay VAG-COM USB lead to my 2002 Diesel Allroad for the first time.

Should have known....there was an error in the Automatic Transmission page:-

    Brake Switch B Circuit Malfunction
    P0703-35-10 Intermittant

    Should I start saving-up?

No. Go and buy a new brake switch.

What, really Brake Switch? (as in the switch on the pedal that stops you).....?

I assumed it was "brake" as in Brake-bands, part of the gear changing mechanism (at least it was the last time I looked inside an auto).

If that really is the fault, I think I've used up my share of good luck for the decade!

Yes, if you google P0703, you shall find all....

It's a common issue with all VWs and Audis

note it says intermittant so only change it if it is a regular fault occurance.

clear the fault and see if it comes back, an "intermittant" after the code means it is working again!! perhaps bad connection or been unplugged at some point in the past

    regards

    Andy

usually it reads intermittent when the contacts in the switch are failing, so not making a good connection. Switches only cost a few pounds from the likes of GSF, and are not too difficult to fit.
On the normal A6 when removing the lower dash cover one bolt is in the fuse panel, I expect it is the same in the allroad

Change the switch. I've done so on mine. Don't bother with GSF, they're dearer than Audi! Only costs £9 from the dealer for crying out loud! Not sure why GSF wanted £12...

Make sure when you're fitting the switch that you don't press the plunger down, otherwise the adjuster will be wrong. Other posts on forums on the internet suggest you should press the plunger down, but speaking from experience... don't! Audi will tell you not to press it.

Also when fitting it, it clicks in, and then needs to be turned (can't remember if its clockwise or anti-clockwise). It'll make a big click noise. Don't be too gentle with it like I was at first.

    Guys,

Well, I changed the Brake light switch, which was easy enough....

Now I have a Tiptronic Gearbox which seems to change gear when it should, rather than at the red-line like it used to..

Time will tell if it's a permanent fix.

I've also found that the "Intermittant" Suspension/Headlight-Self-Levelling Fault Message is now permanent, so I'll need to get dirty again....

Keeps me out of the Pub, I guess..
