The TDV models (I dont know what it stands for for)

Has very slighty better fuel consumption and slightly less in the emmissions department apart from that there is no difference.

Vehicles with TDV appended in the name have a DPF attached (Diesel particulate filter). Means that the soot from the exhaust is trapped into a filter which then burns it off instead of emitting it, giving you cleaner emissions. Be worthwhile looking at your driving style and the issues associated with DPFs before you rush into it. Think TDV just means "Turbo diesel vehicle".

I had a chat recently with Crasher regarding TDV and as far as we could work out,yes to the above remarks ie parti/filter,but the nearest we got to the initials was
    Turbo
    Diesel
V,as in 5,ie;euro5 emmisions controls, but not confirmed as the car we discussed should have been eurs v1 (6)

According to a quote on Honestjohn, "It's got a particulate trap. That's all the difference is according to Audi's internal memos."

I doubt whether TDV stands for Turbo Diesel Vehicle that would be ludicrous as TDI already stands for Turbo Diesel Injection which is obviously a similar thing: i.e. a turbo diesel vehicle. Why have repitition of the same meaning?

This is one of those weird confusing things that does that rounds of the internet every now and then. I recall Audi did give an answer on some website but I cannot remember what it was - to be honest I don't even care. A few scamps jokingly stated it was vorsprung durch technik in reverse.

hate to correct you, but tdi stands for turbo direct injection. i have no idea what tdv stands for, but turbo diesel 5 sounds about right.

Hi Zollaf: Thank you, I stand corrected, my apologies. However, in regards to TDV I doubt it stands for Turbo Diesel Vehicle the standard 3.0TDI etc is also a turbo-diesel-vehicle, it wouldn't make sense to just repeat the initials. TDV does distinguish between the models and it has something to do with a particulate filter.

You would have thought the marketing people could have come up with something simple so as not to cause such confusion!

Hey Roadrocket, the term turbo diesel vehicle was not thrown in by zollaf, zollaf was actually leaning the same way as me ie; v=5 euro 5 emission control.
Your man Andrew skyfox was guessing at v= vehicle
