I considered buying the tools, but then what would I do with it after? I suppose I could always eBay them for a loss - but if I use a non-franchised Audi specialist (VAG-Tune in Aylesbury VAG TUNE SERVICES - GET IN TOUCH) the cost is £206 (Including VAT and quoted today - and a long life service is around the same)!! So why would I even bother to try it myself?
I'm reading this thread with great interest...I'm considering helping a friend of mine do his rear pads and discs. His 2010 A6 is a Quattro so I'm expecting that I'll have the same issue with the lower bolt, right?

    1) Has anyone else tried the method with the universal joints, etc?
    2) If one were to buy the Audi tools for left and right side, could you simply slide a pipe length over the tool to get the appropriate amount of leverage? You would then of course have difficulty judging torque when tightening but if you got close and used some Loctite you would probably be fine...

lol, 'probably be fine' and 'brakes' don't really work well together. what if you overtighten the bolt and it one day snaps, what then...

lol. if you torque up the one you can get to, then do the other to the same feel, then you will be fine.

Maybe the Quattro is different but on my 2WD Avant it was possible to remove the discs without removing the caliper carrier. The hub 'top hat' part of the disc appears to be shaped to allow this to happen as it allows just enough clearance to feed the disc in/out at an angle...

Thanks that would be nice - are your discs the 330mm diameter type?

Not sure they're as big as that. Whatever is standard for a 2.0tdi. 210mm rings a bell but I could be remembering that wrong, it is a few months since I did them.
