    Hi

I hope my post is not too basic for this forum..

I have been looking at other forums (sorry) and have come across issues regarding Balancer Shaft Problems, on B5 models in the US. It is a common occurance for the BHW 2.0 TDI motor I have been told.

    I have a 2003 1.9TDI PD - 130bhp passat.

I want to know if this is a common problem in this model or just the 2.0 models. I have done some research and not found a complete answer.

    Thanks

    Waseem

I guess you mean the oil pump/balancer shaft assembly. That is only used in the 2.0 engine. Never in the 1.9 so you don't have to worry.

Hi. The 1.9 PD (Pumpe Deuse) engine doesnt have the oil pump and balance shaft problems that are associated with the 2.0 TDI engine. If its a high miler automatic gearbox though, its worth changing the transmission oil once you get past 120k. Not an easy job but necessary despite what your VW dealer says.
