Hi, im new to the forum, it looks great.

I have a 1999 Golf GT Tdi, with a 2 button keyfob, and its just stopped working, tried batterys and re syncronising, and its dead, so ive rang up vw, and they are quoting me £43.37 for a new keyfob, with no key.

So my question is, do i need to get a new complete keyfob with a new key etc, or can the key be transferred from my old dead key fob, as the key is ok?!

And will VW have to syncronise it if i use the original key part?

    I didnt think the key fob was a bad price, i was expecting, £70 +. The part number is HL0 1J0 959 753 A 433 Mhz.

Thanks, any help is much appreciated.

    Matthew

ok, when you say the key fob has stopped working, do you just mean the alarm, or can the car no longer be started?

ebay is a good resource for keys and fobs and there are also other sources which are reasonably cheap.

there is a guy on ebay that i can recommend for cut keys, £10 including the blade, so you'd end up paying £55 in total for a new fob and blade.

if the car can no longer be started. it will be a case of either visiting a main dealer or if you are fairly competant with a laptop, you could code the new key to the immobiliser yourself with programs such as vagtacho or vagcom. (see my sig).

main dealers normally charge around half hours labour to code a key, so around £40 for the coding.

roughly, for a new key, new cut blade and coding to your alarm and immobiliser, you should expect to pay no more than £100.

it is just purely the buttons that dont work, if you use the key, you can unlock the car, and start it no problems at all, its just the remote locking

So could i just get a new fob from vw and put the old key onto the new fob?

and if i did that would vw still have to sync it?

    Thanks
