    Hi

I have just bought a 56 plate A4 2.0 Tdi. The car has covered 90k miles.
Seems to be running fine except for the fuel consumption.
Just done 454 miles and filled up with 60 litres - did the maths and got 34mpg, fell out of my seat. Mostly motorway with some urban driving - Surely this can't be right - I was expecting 40+'ish.
Any idea why i could be getting such a poor return.

    Thanks
    Dude.

Well I was going to put a post on last night stating how happy I was with my TDI 140 Avant fuel consumption. Went to girlfriends, 35 miles away, we were down to 55ish through roadworks for a few miles and I didnt go over 75 after - and the rural bit was traffic free. With a trailing breeze I got to her house and the DIS read 57.7 mpg ....... well chuffed.

I can get low 40's too if I honk up there. Certainly depends on driving styles. And checks like tyres pressures make a big difference too.

Now if you had a 170hp with DPF then 38-42 is more the norm

    I have 2.0tdi 140
my dis says that Im getting an average of
50.2 mpg in and out of work using motorways.
when I calculate how for I get out of the fuel
I put in I am really getting 35-43 mpg.
dont put too much faith in the display for your mgp.
I also done a milage test from diff garages.
I filled the car with £40 of bp ultimate diesel, tesco diesel and texco diesel and was doing the same work run every week at the same speeds.

    BP ultimate = 325 miles £1.18 litre (43.6mpg)
    tesco = 273 miles £1.14 litre (35.38mpg)
    texco = 306 miles £1.15 litre (40mpg)

work out yours here if you cant do the maths lol http://www.torquecars.com/tools/uk-mpg-calculator.php

    I have a 2.0 TDi 140 (FWD).

On a full tank I can get upto 700 miles if I am VERY careful on the motorway.

I normally get about 650 of mixed diriving and about 600 (at a push) around town

I have a 2.0 Tdi was 140 but now remapped to 170 BHP.

I did not have DIS (driver information display) until after the remap but I was getting about 600 miles to the full tank about 68-70 litres. I think the tank holds 74 litres but when the DIS says 0 miles I can only fill up with 70 litres so there is still 4 litres in there somewhere with approx 40-50miles of driving and diesel

Anyways since the remap with approx 68-70 lites of diesel put in I now on average get an extra 40 miles out of a tank full so its 640 miles.

But recently I got 700 miles out of a full tank as my journeys are mainly motorway (72 miles per day) and some town driving (2 miles from home to motorway).

I find that driving at 70 mph on motorways and changing up to higher gear at 2000 rpm really helps in saving fuel.

My DIS 2 states I average between 50 - 55 MPG per tank full.

I have tried all the diesels from Tesco, Texaco, esso, BP, Shell, Murco etc etc and they are all the same in MPG in my opinion some may clean yr engine etc but that’s about it.

    on the subject of fuel,
I went to a maxol garage but when I tried
the pump it just started making bubbling noises.
I removed it to see that is wasnt pumping,I looked
about and seen other people were having the
same problem so the tanks must have been dry.
anyway I looked up to see that the counter was still
moving even when no fuel was coming out.I went
in and tried to explain that there was no way I had
got £6 of fuel.....they said they would phone the cops
if I didnt pay so I gave them the money and I wont
    use that filling station again.
