Today I put my 170 TDi on a rolling road to see what the output is with my Steinbauer Diesel Box turned on and off - the results were 195 bhp off and 215 bhp on. I was kind of expecting 170 off and 204 on... So I've booked in for this Friday to adjust the box to get the extra 20% I thought I was going to get.

But why 195 bhp? The guy there told me that it was common that the official output is less than you really get - he said his Passat 130 TDi showed 150 bhp... Sounds unlikely to me, why would Audi say it was 170 bhp when it's really 195 bhp?

I will add that the place I had this done was a very proffessional set up not a dodgy back street affair!

Maybe the quoted bhp is before the cat restricts everything
I remember my 130bhp twin cam sierra would alledgedly have 150 if the cat was removed according to a local tuner a few years ago

    Crap! I wrote BMP!

My car does have all of the restricting factors - DPF etc. I would have thoght 174bhp would be more likely - not 195bhp.

The calibration of some rolling roads is often suspect . Even a correctly calibrated rolling road can be affected by temperature , humidity etc.
Don't believe all the readouts you see ! It is better to view outputs as a comparison rather than absolute values. i.e. before and after any tuning work comparison.
