Hi, I have a RCD 300 Stereo in my VW Golf. I was hoping to be able connect it to my ipod using an AUX. Does anyone have any experience or advice in doing this job yourself. I rang a VW dealer there and i was quoted €200 for installation of a wire. Not a new stereo just a wire coming out of the back.

i want to connect the AUX wire to this:

    http://www.tomtom.com/products/featu...=25&Category=2

The TomTom unit should take care of the charging. I just want an AUX for a wire between the TomTom unit and the Stereo.

Hope this is in the right section.

    Thanks

If your radio supports the 'aux-in' option then you can buy the parts needed for £10.

Depends wether your radio supports the option.....

I know it can play MP3 burned discs. Iread on another forum that the earlier RCD 300 couldnt play Mp3s.

I am not sure how to find out if the radio supports the Aux - In option.

No i dont have a cd changer. I would have no real interest in getting one either. I just want something to connect to the TomTom kit i linked to in my OP. The Tom Tom kit will charge my iPhone and if it is linked to the Stereo AUX i can play music and have a handsfree calling system for the phone.

"The Aux adapter connects to the CD changer socket on the rear of your radio and provides 2 RCA inputs (left & right audio). Just connect your audio device to the RCA connections (additional leads may be required for some audio devices) and select the CD changer button on your car stereo to start listening."

    Compatibility
EOS / Golf 5 / Polo / Touran & Touareg (03 > ON) Head Unit: Models with 6 Pre Set Buttons Models RCD200/300/500

How much would this cost to install?

Would it affect any of the other electrics in the car? e.g would a air bag light start flashing?

Hi, I am back again. I still havent got this stereo issue sorted. The RCD stereo is very poor, it doesnt have an Auxilary port that i can connect to an mp3 player or TomTom Kit. And CD's are always skipping on it. I was hoping to upgrade to another model stereo, but the factory stereos are astronomical prices. I was just interested in finding out the non factory models that are compatible with the car and that can provide an auxilary port.

What stereo's have other posters here installed in your VW Golf Mark V? What kind of price can i expect for installation?

I have also removed the RCD 300 and taken some pictures of it from the back. Can anyone confirm from these that i could have an Auxilary wire coming out of it?

If anyone could even recommend a stereo they have put into there Golf Mark V that would have an aux out on the front id appreciate that. Id like to keep the Blue and red colouring in the lighting if at all possible.

Could i damage the electronics by replacing the factory fit stereo?

Cheers for the reply phil, Does that by any chance have an Aux output on the unit?

Did you install it yourself? I can remove the RCD300 myself without any great difficulty. But i have never installed a stereo myself and i dont want to mess it up.

Also, how do you update the maps on a Sat Nav stereo?

Hi mate yeah I fitted it myself, it's all plug and play, all I had to do was mount the antenna which was easy bud, yes it has got an aux input and a cd changer input, I've used the changer input for my connects2 for my iPod, as for updates you can get them from VW but tbh mine is 2010 but how many roads are being built/changed ATM, there are copys on eBay but I'm not to bothered as the nav works perfect for me, if u search vw satnav on eBay u will find so mfd2 headunits to see what They are like, tbh I'm glad I got mine
