I tried this repeatedly after reading this multiple times on here. It never worked. My daughters car, which is a 2006 VW Passat quit opening from the outside passenger rear. On the back edge of the door, there is a rubber piece that goes in to cover a plastic screw looking thing. I turned this and it started working. Her car also had quit beeping when it locked and the lights didn't flash. it fixed it all! I assume maybe over time it vibrated around?? I'm not talking about the screw thing that works the child door protection. Hope this helps everyone.

Thank you once again to this forum! I had the problem that the rear door handle didn't work and the child lock was on, so I couldn't open the rear door at all. The handle had the same feeling when pulled as though it was still locked. It took quite a few tries (20-30?), but eventually it freed and opened. The method was opening the window and then opening the inside and outside handles while pressing the unlock button on the key fob (twice). I think it may have finally freed when I only had the outer handle pulled slightly, but I'm not 100% sure (I was just surprised that there was finally some resistance there). My mechanic wasn't sure what to do and had been asking around and it sounds like VW were saying that you have to cut a hole in the door, so very pleased to have opened the door. Of course, the first thing I have done is to remove the child locks on both sides (the children will be receiving a full briefing later...).
