    hi everyone

im new on the forum so i thought id say a BIG hello first

just a quick question, im thinking of buying a audi a4 s line 2.0 tdi 170 ps
but it has high mileage and i was wondering if anyone can tell me if they
suffer from any warranty teething problems or anything that go on them or
do you think im pretty safe buying one,i did have an audi 1.9tdi 100ps sport
on 53 plate back in 2003 and bought it brand new but i got shut 6mths later as
it was under powered but i would like to go back to audi.

ive had a word with a friend that knows ppl that works for audi dealer
and they ave said theres nothing to be worried about but i`d like some
    more opinions pls.

your replies will be much appreciated

    cheers

Friends of mine who work for Audi dealers say that B7 A4s are fairly rock solid...

But then again.. there are bound to be some common faults... I know that on the B6s flywheels were a common one... I hope they are less of an issue on the B7s...

Depend on what you think is high mileage. Here in Finland it's very common to find A4 tdis with over 300 000km (roughly 187 000 miles) on the clock that are still running great.

Obviously the more road the car has seen the more you have to be prepared to change wearing parts, such as wheel bearings, shocks, support arms, etc. but the engine and transmission should be fine as long as the car has been serviced regulary.

My old B5 had 290 00km on the clock when I sold it and it was running great.

I bought my Dads ex-company car, a 2005 2.0TDi SE Avant with 167,000miles on the clock. I won't tempt fate by saying it's been........ but you get the picture.

When it's clean it looks brand new and according to him it was better than his current B8 2.0TDi SE Avant (quicker and much better mpg).

I guess if a car is on these miles you need to check it's history... If it's had the cambelt done at the right intervals, been serviced properly with the right oil and you can see that bearings and suspension arms have been replaced then it would suggest the car is good to go on for plenty of miles.

Maybe see if the clutch has been done... if not then at these sorts of miles expect to put a new one in...

I know when I used to drive MK4 Golfs they were generally good til about 70k then virtually all of the suspension bushes needed replacing, the front wishbones, and a few other things...

It was better to own one on 80k that had had everything done recently... than one on 60k where it was all about to go...

    I bought a 2.0 Tdi TDV Sline (140) B7 from a dealer that had 121k and a FASH.

It was on the longlife service and now it is on 134k and it runs like a dream.

So mine was ex fleet and well looked after the service history is complete with all audi stamps, and I got 3 pages of A4 by the leasing company with any trims, lights, tyres etc the changed during its time. Mainly tyre changes though.

    get it and enjoy............................

Check out my threads in this forum... I've not been too lucky with my 56plate A4 - same spec as the one your after and 140k. I reckon with all cars you get spells of good and bad and you just have to ride them out. So if you like it - go for it.
Main thing is don't be fooled that mpg will be better than 40 and it feels best on the open road - not a good town car.
I was interested to see comparison from sportq (Pete) between B7 and B8 - any more comments Pete?
    Good luck Andy.l

I bought my 55 plate 2.0 tdi S Line at 136k miles and it still looks like new. I had the dreaded oil pump go and it is replaced with the gear driven one (£1300) - recently fitted RS4 wheels, new s line suspension and treated it to a proper 180 bhp 324lb ft re map and it flies - now just have to sort the slipping clutch when its been driven for over an hour - but 159k miles on the first clutch is pretty good going. Previous to this I had a BMW 330D and at 95k it was shabby and everything was going wrong. rest assured they are good strong cars with good interiors and just need the usual servicing and regular oil changes, I would find a specialist and only use Audi main dealers for parts
