    Puresilk, thats one hell of a thread resurrection..

    I'm guessing by the number of posts the O.P has made, he/she didn't buy.

    Nice to see your car is still going strong.

    Hello and talk about a throwback.

    Earlier today I bought a 2006 (56) Audi A4 Avant 1.9 tdi 115 bhp (B7) With 177k miles on the clock. Car seemed to drive fine and general wear and tear to the body and interior which was to be expected.

    Car had two previous owners;

    First owner had it for 10 years until 2016 and did 132k miles. FASH with 4-5 long life services (can’t remember exactly). Service shows Cambelt (toothed belt) replacement at 55k miles, but no record of clutch or any other big jobs unfortunately.

    Second owner had it for the next 4 years from 2016-2020/present, 43k miles in that time. They bought it for £4K and did what needed to be done to maintain it through independent services and repairs mostly from if it failed it’s mot’s e.g rear coil spring cracked, windscreen washer not working, tyres, the odd break pad.

    We have bought it for £1000 as it seemed like a good example of a high mileage car which had been reasonably maintained and a good price?, especially since it had the service book (1st owner) and some service history (2nd owner).

    This car is intended for the wife and not expected to be driven anymore than 5k each year. We needed the room of an estate as her previous car was too small to fit the double pram as we have a 1 year old and a newborn :/

    Is there anything you would say to watch out for from your own experience or knowledge? I will try to keep this thread updated on how it gets on.

    Your replies will be much appreciated!

    If the cambelt was only done once around 2011 after 55k miles it's well overdue IMO. Check brake pads to ensure they aren't close to scoring discs. See if an oil change is due. Take a view on renewing brake fluid. See if air and cabin filters are prety clean. Cross fingers and hope torbo, flywheel, etc stay OK.

    It looks like the cam belt might have actually been done in 2010. I think it will be a priority!

    Depending upon the mileage, the clutch might not have been done.
    My old Bora, was bought at 87 k miles and after a smidgeon over 3 yrs, sold on with 201k miles
    The clutch and brake discs had not been changed. They were fine as the miles were all motorway cruising miles. Good torque, plenty of traffic anticipation so gentle braking and it was good.
    I had to clean the EGR though, change of brake pads and the rear bushes (common thing on Boras by all accounts)

    Solid old tank that was.
