I need a couple of new tyres, or will do soon, for the rear of my Mk5 Golf 1.9TDI.

When the fronts needed replacing I put Barum Bravuris tyres on. They seem to have good write ups as a budget tyre but I have also read some horror stories. I have found them a bit noisy as well.

Whenever people talk about quality tyres, the usual suspects come up - Michelin, Contis, Bridgestone, Goodyear etc etc but you rarely hear about Uniroyals.

If you "google" them, they come out extremely well in all sorts of reviews. One website gave them a 90% "would buy again" rating. I have looked at various threads on here and Crasher speaks highly of them.

They are not that expensive either - I've been quoted £54-50 fully fitted.

Why don't we hear more about them? They seem to tick all the boxes.

I've used Uniroyals on my mk1 MR2 . These tyres were excellent in both the wet and dry. I would recommend them.

Re-assurring that they are now fitted as standard equipment on some Beemers.

If they are as good as everyone seems to think, they are very competitively priced too.

Think I've made my mind up!

Haven't got them yet. Still got over 3 mm on the tyres although a bit of uneven wear on one. Think previous owner may have rotated them from the front.

The quote I got was for 195:65:15s - H rating.

My mk4 Golf came with them as standard and I was a bit sceptical about them as I had always thought of them as more of a budget/medium tyre.

How wrong was I! Cracking tyres that I recommend to anyone, great grip in the wet and good wear, and very well priced.

I use nothing but Uniroyal tyres and have done for 20 years. The RainExpert is a good family car tyre and the RainSport 2 excellent for more performance orientated cars.

Not brilliant on wear, low noise levels and comfortable.
