No easy way around it, the immobiliser under the dash instructs the ECU whether to start or not on receipt of a four digit pin.

i no it wont be easy but is it possible? im on a tight budget due to being made redundant and would rather not have to shell out for new parts etc if i can. is there a way of cutting out the immobiliser?
If not what would you suggest will be the cheapest way for me to get it mobile again.

Can't you get a new key cut and have it programmed for the car?

Don't think so because locksmiths do it by copying an existing one. Even if you get another ECU and matching key it still needs a dealer to do something IIRC.
Can a VW dealer get a new key based on the chassis number?

Well that's what I would expect, then they should be able to program it?

Yes but it won't be £25-£30 for copying a key. They still need to do the coding thing with the new key and they need the car to do it.

Yes you can have the immobiliser function removed from the ECU, but it is not easy as if it was, it would not be much good as anti theft device. Unfortunately problems like this have no respect for people’s financial situation. Removing the immobiliser function is done inside the ECU and you would need to remove the ECU and send it to a specialist company, typically it costs around £100 but you still need a key. You need to get they key number from VW by going to a dealer with the registration documents and some ID. From this they will be able to cut you a new key but this will not allow the car to run. Once you can get into the car, a mobile key specialist can come around and programme the immobiliser to match the chip in the new key and match the immobiliser to the ECU. Some of these mobile companies can also break into the car and obtain the key number (I am not saying on here how that is done) and then cut a new key on site and program it in. I have a “man in a van” come around to my workshop when I need this service but I am not sure if he works as far as Lincoln.
