Hi all, just picked up a cheap 97 Gti 8V off my brother, in fact rescued it from being broken after a prang.
Has a new MOT and drives OK, but the back end just does not feel right and I can't put my finger on it.
I thought shocks at first, but as there is also a noisy wheel bearing I wondered if it might have some play, but having had a new MOT it shouldn't have.
It kind of wallows and shimmies a little.

So what do you all reckon at 119k, rear axle bushes & shocks will sort it, or could it need the top shock mounts aswell?

This is my 23rd or so car, but first Golf....

Well to answer myself, having driven the car a bit more, I think it's only the shocks that aer knackered.

Has anyone had the rear bushes done and how long did the job take, been quoted a very high number for it locally.

I had a mate of mine help change the shocks on my golf, took about an hour, the rears are fairly easy to put in, you just need a bit of leverage to fit the bottom of the shocks in. (2 people made this much quicker)

Although yours being a GTI, you probably have gas rears, but i dont think it would be any more or less difficult to fit them.
