I recently acquired a 2005 A3 (2.0 TFSI Quattro) which came with a bose Symphony stereo. I'm thinking about trying to retrofit a multifunction steering wheel so that I don't have to reach over to the centre console to fiddle with the radio.

So my questions are as follows:

    1) Is it possible?
    2) What bits do I need besides a new steering wheel. I've found one which I think will work for £175 on ebay (comes without an airbag).
    3) Can I just transfer the airbag from the current steering wheel to the new one?
    4) Is there a better / cheaper way of getting controls on the steering wheel?

Any advice would be very gratefully received!

Yes it's possible. You need the steering wheel, airbag harness, steering wheel control module and a diagnostic tool such as VCDS.

Your current airbag may fit but there are two types that look the same.

There is no better (or cheaper) way than going OEM

If you could, I wouldn't have listed it as an item you needed
