Ok dont panic... can you still open the door? If so then is a straight forward job...

the handle is remove for a hole in the side and I think you've failed to re attach the rod.

To remove the door card undo the screws along the bottom. Prize the handle apart and undo the 2 screws. Then release the poppers around the edge of the card ( A bit tricky!!!) Get a trim removal tool from halfords.

The problem is the door on a MK5 are different...sort of back to front. the outer door skin is bolted on to the pressed frame and removing the door handle is part of that.

I suggest getting a Haynes manual as its described very well in there and you ont need to do the handle bit which requires no card being removed.

IIRC there is a hole in the side of the door that releases the door handle so you can remove it. Is that how you have done it?

The door handle has 2 parts when u look at it from the o/s. You hav the small section and the handle itself.

What I'd done was I got a flat head screw driver and poppd underneath the casing on the small section and I pulled the door handle and shoved it into the gap to losen the small section, but i wnt come off. Then the handle became abit stiff and I gave it a slight nudge, only to find that as I close the door, it won't open agen from the o/s.

This is Not how it comes apart, if you look down the edge of the door there is a small sliver sticker inline with the external handle. Inside is a screw. As you undo that screw it releases the small section of the handle. Then the rest of the handle can be removed. Rob
