I have a high mileage 2007 GT TDi, I got it with 72k miles on, my service reord shows the car has been serviced every 20,000 miles but I've just hit 82k and the car is saying 'service needed'. Its not been a year since the last one and I've only covered 10,000 miles, no VW dealers seem to be in today, I have called 3 and got no answer from the service depts at all. Anyone help please.

    Hi,

it looks like the previous owner had the car on the longlife variable service regime which is the default setting at the factory.
This means that the computer lets you know when the service is due depending on the conditions that the car is being driven, long motorway driving (longer between services) or lots of town driving ( shorter term between services).
The other service setting that is available is the Time and Distance which is fixed at 12 months or 10000 miles and can be set by the dealer, which is probably what has happened to your car and is becoming more common from what a main dealer told me.
If in doubt phone the garage that last serviced the car and ask which regime it is set on.
I prefer the Time and Distance as the car gets fresh oil at least once a year, and is also checked over more often, but the choice is yours.

I agree, two 'longlife servcies gets you to around 50,000 - 60,000 miles, then about the same says it's needed again at about 72K. Get it done within the next 1000 miles. Get the cam belt done as well - they are due at 80K anyway. Shop around for a good price!
