    Agree completely

had one fitted to my 170 2.0 tdi Golf - it was fine for a day then played up something rotten, running lumpy, DPF light on/ off all the time, so took it off then had nothing but DPF issues.

not recommended at all, complete waste of time and money, then nothing but grief.

a HUGE and BIG thanks to ''patrickhorton'' and ''a8 tech''
I had same problem as patrick(same engine audi a4 56plate 170 ). filter cleaning light came on and i just kept it ignoring as it was third time it came in the region of 6 months, after a week ignition coil light came and car went into limp mode. at that point i realised that i made a Big mistake and should have took it on motorway to clear it as always but was very busy and it didn't happened this time.
SO searched every where for solution. was quoted from £400(cleaning or removing DPF) to £1400 installation of new DPF.
Its midnight and i am writing to Say thanks to ''patric'' who started this thread and another thanks to ''a8 tech'' who's solution did work for me. Patric method was really good but had so much effort involved in it so i used Ross-tech method(advised by a8 tech) and it has worked very well.
    THANKS

Glad your sorted CH_Mudasser. The forced regen is definitely the easiest fix so log as you aren't having to do it too often and the car is driving well for you.

Sooner or later though all these DPFs will reach end of life. No amount of forced regeneration will remove the accumulated ash. It is a consumable part lasting up to 150k miles if you're lucky. At that point everyone will be faced with the choice of £1500 replacement or removal along with a non-audi remap to the ECU or do what I did. Mine has now done well over 10k on a modified DPF. I haven't reported it much as I don't want to push my luck. The mod cost about £20.

It is going to be really interesting following this subject in a couple of years time when the 170 B7s come of age...

Sorry to drag up an old thread, i've been trawling forums for a bit of help as I have the same problem in an A3 (i know this is the A4 bit). @A8Tech - do you have any tips on how to resolve this on a 2008 A3 170? I have glow plug, emissions and DPF light on aswell as limp mode at the moment. It's covered 45k miles, only bought it a couple of weeks ago and tried running it but it's not made a blind bit of difference. It's also an S-tronic so have little control over the gears and revs etc

I'm in Manchester if anyone can recommend someone who can fix it - tried VAG tecnik but the guy's away for 2 weeks

It's got to be worth going to the dealers for an emergency regen first to see if that fixes it for good. Surely it would be no more than an hour's labour and no parts are needed. If the fault comes back you will have to look at other ideas.

    Good luck

Surely the S-Tronic has a tiptronic mode that allows you to select gears manually, does it not?

I'm in exactly the same boat as you. I just wanna know, how long do you have to drive the car for and what particular speed and revs?
