I've spent a fair bit of time searching the forum for the problem but I have failed miserably after two hours, so apologies for raising something I expect as been extensively discussed . Hopefully someone will recall the issue I'm having and save me the hefty labour charge my VW garage will want to investigate.

On my 2005 Golf 2.0 TDI I experience an intermittent issue with the dual zone climate control. On occasion the vents all seem to close (in the depths of the dash somewhere) while the fans respond to changes in speed. The a/c and heat is still being produced but no matter what mode or manual button pressing is done no air flow will come from any vent. Oddly the issues surfaces after you have been driving for 15+ minutes and it's never shown its self when starting from cold.

I heard of some issues with the driver side or passenger side not responding due to fouled our broken motors but this is always the whole system and oddly only shows itself after the its been on for a while (regardless if it's summer or winter).

    Cheers for any guidance.

    Lee

    Hi Lee,

A little while ago now but did you ever find out what was wrong with your air con/air vents?

i'm having the same issue where the airflow stops after about 20mins of driving at speed. The airflow begins again once stationary for a minute or two... sounds very similar to the issue you were having... very odd.

the air con temperature is fine - it just seems like the car decides to block off the airvents after a period of driving at high speeds - the fans still operate normally (i.e. the fan speed changes) but the air vents are blocked somewhere and only open again once the car is stationary for a short time..

    cheers,

    Mike

    hi lee,
did you ever get anywhere with your air con problem?
I have similar thing with my 55 1.9 tdi. on long journeys the air con works fine for about 30 to 40 minutes, then, although the fan is going ( you can hear it), nothing comes from the vents. admittedly this is in very hot weather, at motorway speeds, but when else do you need it? I too have searched forums to no avail.
    any help appreciated.

sorry zillfish - i've still got the problem but no solution. It seems like the climatic control is malfunctioning in some way (automatically closing the air off somewhere after a certain time at/above a certain speed) but, like you, i don't know why?

Does anyone know if the car automatically adjusts airflow through the vents at speed? my feeling is that it's a software issue as apposed to a hardware fault..

have you checked if any fault codes come up , i had this on my 2.0tdi GT sport recently , when being serviced they found a fault code for a sensor failure on aircon evaporator (i think) all ok now changed.

Guy at service desk was surprised they had sensor in stock , so thinks it may be a common problem

    Hi,
Just had the aicon compressor replaced on my 170tdi 56 plate a week ago, aircon was completely dead. Total cost £299 parts (see Sinspeed) £100 labour.

Let me know if you want more details !
