    Hi All,

I've installed a circa 2005 Nav unit in my 2008 Allroad.

The Nav is seen by the MMI and works except I can't see any maps. [2009 Australia]

It sees 2 satellites and gives lat and long ect but no maps. The page is just blank [white]

Could it be a firmware software problem?

I updated the car to 5570 some weeks ago. Could there be a conflict with this older unit.

I've tried updating the Nav unit with all three of the 5570 discs but I'm not given an option to update the Nav as I am with the rest of the components.

    I just get a [ - ] sign after Nav.

I've enabled Nav with vagcom as well and at this stage I'm stumped?

Should I try to update the Nav using earlier discs before attempting 5570?

firstly the mmi update does not update the nav as this can only be updated via the sat nav dvd.Dont go backwards with the sw revision only forwards.
The mmi will need to be updated to allow 3d veiw.
Have you checked the optical circuit via the optical test to make sure the mmi network is working with out any componant protection.

Check the hw version is valid for your mmi network and you need at least 6 sats.
goto address 07 adaption 111 and reset the mmi and then drive the vehicle to receive mores sats
Also check the nav is coded and all the adaption channels are correct using the vcds

Is the nav unit genuine and correct for your spec mmi

Thank you very much for your reply A 8 tech.

I'll immediately stop trying to find earlier mmi versions

Is checking the optical circuit a vagcom function?

I've run a complete scan and it shows no faults.

How would I check that the hw version is valid for my MMI network?

I have etka, vagcom and Eslawin but as a newby to Audi still need a shove in the right direction.

The Nav is genuine but I'm worried now that it might not be correct spec for my MMI????

optical test via vag com http://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/tour/optical-bus.html
the hardware version can be viewed via vag com in nav then cross reference the part number for the nav with etka
see this forum link for a pdf for the oem fitting instructions http://www.audi-forums.com/c6-forum/...audi-a6-3.html

Vagcom shows the following info for the Nav unit-

    HW is - 4E0 919 887 C.

    Part number software is- 4E0 910 888 P

    _______________

Ekta shows it has no direct replacement and was superseded 07/02-03/04 for 4E0 910 887 C.

    This was dropped on 01/10/05 for 4E0 910 887 D.

Mine is an MY08 car. Does this suggest the problem is incompatibility?

I would say it will work as I just needed to know if this was for mmi high or mmi basic. If all the nav functions display on the mmi but the map is blank then try looking at how many sat you are picking up and move the gps until you start to see some as well as driving the vehicle to force the signal. If possible post a full scan log and also a picture of the mmi map screen.I find some times you need to drive for at least 30 minuets before it kicks in.It will be interesting to see if the gps picks up more sats as if it doesn't then look at the gps.

    Thats encouraging, thanks.

    It's 2.40am and I'll stop worrying now.

Must........get..........sleep........... and stop obsessing over this Nav.

    Cheers Craig

OK. I can confirm that everything works except the gps function.

Have driven it as suggested for 1/2 hour and it wont find any more than 1 satellite and even that is intermittent.

It came with a generic gps antenna so maybe that is the problem??

    Cryptic info about coding here-

    Post 26 and 30
    http://www.audi-forums.com/c6-forum/...audi-a6-3.html

I've definitely enabled it using vagcom but the second part I dont understand, relating to "byte".

Further to that directly above I've checked the can gateway and navigation is set to byte 5 by default.

Will not "see" satellites [can see 3 now occassionally] for more than a few minutes and as such wont find position on the maps [that do work by the way]

The Nav unit doesn't require a separate power line from the RHS fuse box but rather piggy backs off the input cable for the amp.

    check theses

    Adaption channel 1
    tyre size
    Attachment 7626

    channel 2
    enter 96

to check the gps go to measured value blocks channel 05 this will show received sats and the status of the gps
channel 4 will show vehicle speed
channel 6 will show gps information
channel 10 & 11 will show longitude and latitude

As this vehicle is the avant platform then if you have phone prep then you will have the roof based aerial, in most cases this already has the gps function so its just a case of running a coax cable from the nav to the aerial.I would use original parts for the gps if not already installed.I have checked the nav part numbers and to be fair when I retro fit I only source oem parts and the latest version available but as this retro fot kit can be bought job lot from Audi I have never had any problems as the kit is order to the specific vehicle including the wiring loom and fibre optic.

So I can't give a complete answer to the nav part number as this version is 2005 but appears ok for the Oz market and the dvd will set the region so make sure those two adaptions are correct and then I would re route the gps if its after market onto the roof just to test the reception to eliminate or fit the oem aerial with oem coax cable.
