    Hi,

Had the same problem myself this week. After removing the fan from its housing i noticed that the red cable (connected to the resistor pack) had burnt out meaning heavy resistance to the fan. I removed the resistor pack, cleaned the connector, replaced the connector on the fan side and all works fine!

Just for info, if you remove the red cable from the resistor pack, you should get about 6 Volts with your fan set to 4....give that a go befor you replace the fan.

I took my fan to work and put a 6 Volt battery across it...it worked fine.

    Hope this helps

Ancient thread revival for the win.

So I have a Mk3 Golf estate & the fan stopped working but I could still feel Hot air coming through. After a Google search I found a few threads on here but this one solved my issue as my Red wire had also corroded/burnt out a bit. Really easy to access on the Mk3 with just pulling a bit of lining out the way & popping a couple of clips. Gave the terminals a good scrape & clean & I now have a fully working fan again.

So Thanks to adrian.wilkes as you've just saved me a few quid & Thanks to whoever is hosting the forums, I'll do the rest in an intro thread, Not new to forums.
