Further to my glow plug question, my dealer found a 'speed sensor' intermittant fault logged on the gearbox. I've had two mishaps with it, both ages ago whilst I was pushing the car heavily round a slip road on a corner and piling on the power. The revs lurched slightly but then settled down and carried on regardless. I'm not sure if the ESP was operating at the time, but may have been. I've had no issues since and have recently changed the oil (done at 30k and 62k).
Is this the slippery slope to multitronic hell? I've got to say that since the oil change the car hasn't hesitated at all on pulling away - which used to be a minor niggle. I'm hoping the fault was a one-off and somehow related to the road conditions at the time. Anyone else had this?

    Mark.

    Mark.

Hi Mark, Multitronics are fussy beasts. They can die early or not at all. Mine had the ecu replaced at around 40k miles before I got the car (thank god). I got it with 100k Miles. Now It has around 171000 miles and it still drives really well. I guess it all comes down to luck, and how hard you drive it.

I did read somewhere on the net that multitronics are supposed to have the oil pump changed at around 300000kms, which is around 195k miles give or take a few. But it is supposed to be really expensive because you have to replace something else in the process, and I won't be doing it!

It's always risky business buying any automatic after the warranty is out! But I took the plunge, knowing the problems with multitronics. I have been lucky so far, and Intend to drive the car until it dies, Meaning engine or multitronic.

I wouldn't really worry about your experiences, as sometimes the box can act a little funny, like sometimes you think it gets confused, The odd time when driving, I feel the occasional jerk, at around 60 mph. like if you just hit the brakes a little. But I noticed that since I got it. Anyway just remember the oil changes every 40k miles and you should be fine! take care
