    Hi Guys
My passat 140 s estate 2006, when I unlock the car itself the boot then clicks open as well. If I open the tailgate and shut it again, it then clicks open again. It continues like this all the time clicking open every 15 seconds or so. It’s like I’m continually signalling for the boot to open. Of course it doesn’t open fully, but if I close it then lock the actual car it’s fine.

I’ve tried the inside drivers side boot switch, off and on many times, to see if it’s jammed on but that never worked anyway nor did the remote “boot open” on the key fob. I would just open the boot by hand after unlocking the car itself and although not ideal it was never a problem until now.

    Any ideas?

The microswitch is built into the lock. You probably need a new lock.

Cheers Martin........you could well be right, but would the car, as well as the tailgate, lock as normal.

It's when I unlock the car that the tailgate unlocks on it's own and it continues to do so every 15 seconds or so.

Unless you are pretty good with electronics you will struggle to find out exactly what the fault is. The module controlling locking relies on the lock telling it if the boot is locked or not. SO if the module unlocks the boot but the signal reports still locked, it will carry on trying to unlock. You could get a fault code read to see if that gives a clue. My guess is you will get a fault saying implausable signal or intermittant signal. On the b5 model this is nearly always a wire fault or a ccm fault. The b6 doesn't seem to suffer from this so the most likely fault is the lock. The boot lock is a fairly common fault.

Is it possible that it's the key that's at fault?

It's the o/s/f window motor/control unit causing this fault - Have replaced many for this exact problem

Thanks guys, interesting stuff. The car is back to normal, how I dont know, but what I mean is the tailgate will shut and stay shut. The boot along with the car will lock as normal. I can now open the tailgate with the keyfob, it unlocks and locks the gate while the car itself is still locked. The only thing not working is the drivers internal boot open switch.

I dont know how it's okay or how it first came about, but it's okay for now. I can live without the internal switch...I've never used it TBH.

Would like some info on this. I am in the trade and I have a 2002 TDi boot will not stay latched. Thought it was the lock but it appears that the cable from the sevo in the lid is in the unlock position all the time even when unplugged. Could this be a similar thing?
    Cheers

Different model, different electrical system. Boot control on a B5 is via the ccm under the passenger front carpet. The wires often get wet and corrode. BUT The boot locks often go faulty as well.

Thanks. Yes I have now taken the sevo motor out of the tailgate and it was jammed in the unlock position. Did manage to free it but it sticks from time to time so have ordered new.
    Many thanks anyway
    Cheers
