Blower Fan Intermittent

1998 A4 tdi with climate control.
This seems to be a common problem but I can't find a definitive answer on the forums.
Every now and again the blower fan does nothing, come back next day etc it will work fine for while, seemed to do it more on cold mornings but did it today for the first time when it was really hot, hence no aircon hence I now need to fix it.
it will probably work now for a couple of weeks.

Is it likely to be a dogey connector on the fan or the fan bushes?
The external temp gauge can play up also, anyone no the cost to fix this?

Hi,
I had the same problem on 1.9tdi a4,2000.
I had to take the glove box out and then reach the motor.
the motor cant comeout untill you take the left bracket out for the airbag, if your car has one on the passenger side.
Then you can take the motor out.
The problem seem to be that the bush are gone and in turn rubbed against the rotor and have rubbed the copper off slightly. this causes to much friction. Also the bearings or bushes on the shaft have too much friction. I oiled it to get rid oif the friction. it turns on now. but since its electric and may cause fire later....its best to get a new one. found some on ebay for £65.
