    Hi all!

Its time to renew the ns wishbone bushes due to excessive play/worn out.
Car has done 148k so its not done too bad?

I got a pair of bushes yesterday from GSF for £7.99 inc vat.

    Anyone done this job themselves?

I service and minor repair the car and my motorbike so I`m fairly competant with my tools.

I would have let a mechanic mate sort it but he`s busy for a couple of weeks.

Any tips or advice would be really welcomed.

    Cheers

PS I will endevour to do a mini detailing writeup soon I promise.

Just done them on my 80 Avant, so i assume they are similar.

I would rather have paid the extra for the complete arm.

The time and aggravation didn't justify the money saved.

Go ahead if you have plenty of patience, time and a press of some kind.

Be careful though, you can bend the arm very easily.
Older, wiser and cheaper to insure

    Hiya.
Just did the bush job on my tdi no problem, the hard part is to get the old bush out, you need a press, i did not have one so the best way is to burn the center part out then cut the outer part with a hacksaw but not to deep or you will cut the arm, then to fit the new ones you will need a long nut and bolt and that will pull the new ones in job dun, its not that hard and you will save a shed load of money,

    All the best

    Steve

I was going to replaced the bushes on my 1994 80 2.0, bought polly bushes just so they would out live the car. Almost everyone I spoke to told me it is a pain especially if you dont have a press (the press is even more of a must with the poly bushes as they just wont go in).

I took advice and got my local garage to fit them. £65 just for fitting, but if you dont have a press or a burner to remove the old ones, I think it was one of those simple but pain in the a*se jobs thats best left to a garage.

    Cheers Vimto.

From what I`ve gathered.... a garage it is...

Especially as they are the original bushes.... and will be a pain to get out.

Many thanks to all who have replied

I`ll post back once I`ve had them done with my findings etc.

Well due to Diggle motors being busy,I decided to let a VW/ Audi specialist in Ashton Under Lyne do the job.

I had both sides of the front suspension done with new bushes for £100.

I thought thats a great price.

Anyway, what a difference new bushes have made.
    Drives sooooo much nicer.

Hope this is useful for future reference!
