Hi, Please forgive my ignorance as I am a new Audi owner. I have a 2000 W A4 1.9Tdi SE (115bhp) and I am interested to learn of the difference in engine spec and facelifts over the range between 1995 - 2002 in order to see where my car fits. Thanks for your trouble. Also, which is considered to be the best model.

Hi! you have the same model as me which is the last of the A4 models you should have the PD engine think the engine code is AJM from memory.

The first face lift was around 1997-8 not many revisions to note the most obvious being a newer steering wheel and other minor revisions in trim. the last face lift was 1999-2000 which had a lot more revisions, Front lights became one piece projector lamps, re designed front and rear bumpers, round fog lights, rear light revision, side door mouldings became chunkier, wing mirrors changed, slight revision on the boot lid shape and door handles become one piece.

Inside a re-jigged centre consol ash tray design and climate control changed shape. different choice of seat cover designs available, rear electric windows as standard.

Re-designed suspension set up, Diesel engines both AFN 110bhp red i and the 115bhp PD engine available not sure if they just used up the 110 engine and started using the PD engine or if there was a choice.

I have had both a 98 face lift and now have a 2000 face lift and the only real driving differences I can say is the suspension feels more sorted on the 2000 model better in the corners and over the rough stuff, engine wise I would say the 115 is much quieter, smoother and has a bit more go in it, the 110 was ok but it seemed to boost hard with a lot of lag where as the 115 has more of an even spread of power. An interesting point is I got a lot more MPG from the older 110 engine averaging well over 50mpg with combined driving where as the 115 struggles to maintane 46mpg.

Which is better engine wise a do not know hopefully both as reliable as the other and although under powered by modern standards I still love them!
