cant comment on the intervals but personally i would never let a timing belt do 60,000 miles,i would also get the timing belt kit from vw,ive recently done mine and was advised by a good source to not go for cheaper alternatives where the belt and tensioner are concerned

I'd have it done by VW, as there would be a two year guarantee on parts and labour.

4 years or 40k miles is the interval. Don't push it, it's not worth it. People have been reporting cambelt failures at below 40k miles on this site, so any more is taking a big risk. I had mine done on my Passat by VW for £275 including all tensioners and 2 year warranty. The warranty also covers associated parts caused by the belt if it fails, and all labour, not just the cost of the belt.

find a good vw dealer and get them to do it spercial procedures exist for pd engines dont risk getting the timing wrong or fitting cheap parts otherwise your risking a possible expensive repair

Went to the local vw dealer and they did it and the altenator and air con belt for £278 .
My uncle who is a mechanic reckons it would take the best part of a day which it dit at vw .
This is a bargain for the work involved so no point comprimising with cheap parts , plus they give you a 2 year waranty with the parts .

Thats an incredible deal from a VW dealership!
Which one was it? How was the service? Was that the first price they quoted?
    I want to know more!
