Also any cheap places on net to get the bits i need ???
    Cheers Kieran
Intervals are 60k on a PD and costs are around 300 quid from the dealers.Like someone has already pointed out warrantied work from VW dealers as well for 24 months parts and labour.

Front bumper off job ( 20 mins) and then around 4 hours to remove and refit belt, tensioner etc.

I had my 99 tdi sport done by VW Yeovil for £250 all in plus a courtesy car..You get a 2yr unlimited warranty and Genuine parts. I did the previous one myself, but older and wiser now. I was a professional mechanic in the days when things were repaired not replaced, but I have posted a picture of the job a while back and it is a biggish job. Front off or moved forward and it takes about 4-5 hrs.. By all means have a go yourself if you are handy with spanners and take your time, but mark everything and use genuine bits! Good Luck!

I would like to meet the person who reckons a belt can be changed in 1 hour!!!!!(Unless he means this is just to get the front off!!) he could earn a fortune.. It takes VW about 4 and it took me about 6 the first time. The last time I posted on this subject I had several replies concerning the method. a. It is possible to do it the "official" way and just slide the lock carrier forward. This is ok if you don't mind skinning your knuckles! but b. just take the front off or swing round as in the pic.
I realise that it is a bit of a glib answer to say get it done by VW,but if money is tight then it just has to be done DIY.
But do it if 4yrs or 60000k has gone by and use genuine bits...

I Have A Fair Idea & Have Checked This Job Out In Detail, & As You've Described Its Got To Take 2 Hours To Gain Entry To The Front, You Are Definatly Correct.

    Hi everyone,

This is my first post in ages so please bear with me.

I've got a quote from my local VW dealer for €630 and from the same group who have a skoda dealership in a different garage for €700.

I can't belive the diference in proces between the UK and Ireland.

I was serioulsy thinking about buying the parts myself and then getting a local mechanic to do it for me but reading the warnings I've become a bit more reluctant.

I need to get the radiator changed as its been leaking for the past while so I presume that it would be best to get it all done together .

I'm expecting €1000 plus for the total.

Would anyone be able to give me a list of parts that need changing.

the car is a 2001 1.9 TDI AWX with air-con.

    Thanks

    Pat

Cars last twice as long if only driven every other day.
